Accessorial's are used to identify specific needs for your freight shipments. These notify the carrier that special equipment is needed for your shipment’s pickup or delivery, or further services are needed. This allows for the carrier to add the fees to your invoice upfront, and to ensure there are no delays to your shipment.
Adding Accessorial's
There are a few ways that you can add an accessorial:
- You can edit a saved contact (under Settings > Contacts)
- You can add to a new contact (under Settings > Contacts)
- You can add them to a contact when creating an order
- You can add them to a contact when booking freight
The accessorial's available are as follows:
- Appointment - the delivery requires an appointment scheduled ahead of time (this does not apply to pickups)
- Inside Pickup/Inside Delivery - the pickup/delivery will need to take place inside the delivery facility - this requires special equipment, and takes more time. An accessorial fee will typically be applied upfront.
- Limited Access Delivery/Limited Access Pickup - Sometimes, a driver will encounter a pickup or delivery in which they don’t have direct access to the location. This may be a residential area or other private locations such as a hospital or church. A fee will be added to the bill if it is not specified ahead of time that a truck will not have access to a pickup or drop off area.
- Lifegate Pickup/Liftgate Delivery - A liftgate is required for the pickup/delivery at the designated loading dock for freight to be lowered to the ground. Not all trucks have liftgates, so it must be specified from the start if a shipment will need one. If a liftgate needs to be used and hasn’t been accounted for, additional fees will apply.
- Residential Pickup/Residential Delivery - Sometimes, a driver will encounter a pickup or delivery in a residential area in which they don’t have direct access to the location. A fee will be added to the bill if it is not specified ahead of time that a truck will not have access to a pickup or drop off area.
- Tradeshow Pickup/Tradeshow Delivery - Shipping to trade shows or events often requires specialized services like trade show delivery, booth delivery, or inside pickup.
- Hazmat - the shipment contains materials that must be controlled, stored, or transported in a way that prevents a potential hazard to human health, safety, or infrastructure.
- Notify Before Delivery - The carrier must notify the consignee before completing the delivery.
- None - No accessorial's are required
